The 70 acres of woodland making up a vast part
of Cambo Estate are carpeted in snowdrops, snowflakes and aconites
each February early March. The woodland paths were originally planned
as a series of walks and it is therefore possible to follow the
burn from the entrance to the estate to the sea following the Cambo
burn on one side and returning on the other, all the while being
able to savour the wonderful displays of these wonderful snowdrops.
The majority of the bulbs you will see are double
snowdrops, which seem to multiply much quicker here, interspersed
with ever-increasing areas of singles and the more unusual snowflake
as well as vast yellow patches of the aconite.
Selected areas are dug up each year for sorting
and dispatch to our many mail-order customers. Care is taken to
ensure that each kind of bulb is kept quite separate during sorting
so that Catherine is then able to allocate specific places for the
replanting, thereby bulking up existing areas creating new areas
either to suit her needs or to add the spectacular. |
